Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado presented her Nobel Peace Prize medal to former U.S. President Donald Trump. The gift occurred during a private meeting at the White House.
Machado said she gave Trump the award to credit him for his actions against the government of Nicolás Maduro. She stated Trump's policies helped "liberate" Venezuela.
Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 for her non-violent resistance. She is a leading critic of Maduro, whom the U.S. and other nations call an illegitimate leader.
The meeting highlights Trump's continued focus on Venezuela. His administration imposed severe economic sanctions on the country to pressure Maduro to leave power.
