Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado says she offered her Nobel Peace Prize medal to U.S. President Donald Trump. The event occurred during their meeting at the White House on Thursday.
"I presented the president of the United States the medal of the Nobel Peace Prize," Machado told reporters outside the U.S. Capitol. She did not clarify if Trump accepted the medal.
Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 for her non-violent struggle for women's rights and democracy in Venezuela. Her White House visit aimed to discuss her country's future with President Trump.
The U.S. president has previously dismissed Machado's credibility. He has called Venezuela's current socialist government "strong" and "smart."
