Seun Kuti: $120,000 Paid Just for Being Fela's Son

Nigerian musician Seun Kuti says he was once paid $120,000 for an event simply because he is the son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. He made the statement while criticizing the intense online fan base of award-winning singer Wizkid, known as "Wizkid FC." Kuti argued that many modern artists rely on hype rather than substance. He used his personal experience to highlight what he sees as a problem in the music industry. "Someone paid me $120,000 just because I am Fela’s son," Kuti said. He suggested the payment was for his famous family name, not his own artistic merit at the time. The musician is the youngest son of Fela Kuti and now leads his father's former band, Egypt 80.
