Julian Barnes, one of Britain's most celebrated authors, has declared his new book will be his last. The announcement comes as he publishes the hybrid novel "Departure(s)" at age 80.
The book blends memoir and fiction. It releases the day after his birthday.
Barnes has lived with a rare blood cancer for six years. Despite this, he states he is currently "enjoying himself."
He is a perennial favorite to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. His notable works include "The Sense of an Ending," which won the Booker Prize in 2011.
