U.S. prosecutors have charged 20 people with fixing college and Chinese professional basketball games. The charges are part of a major international sports betting investigation.
A federal indictment, made public on Thursday in Philadelphia, accuses the group of conspiracy. Prosecutors say they worked together to rig games from September 2022 until February 2025.
Some defendants were previously charged in a separate gambling probe connected to the NBA. The new indictment specifically mentions attempts to manipulate games during the 2022-2023 season of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).
The investigation is ongoing. It highlights growing concerns about organized crime targeting global sports for illegal gambling profits.
