Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, has left X. She announced she is quitting the social media platform, formerly known as Twitter.
Weingarten said the site has changed under owner Elon Musk. She claims it is no longer a digital "public square" for healthy debate. Instead, she accuses it of becoming a place that spreads hate and disinformation. Disinformation is false information spread deliberately to deceive people.
The union leader has over 330,000 followers on X. Her departure is a notable protest from a major U.S. labor leader. The American Federation of Teachers represents 1.7 million educators.
Weingarten did not say where she will communicate online in the future. X has not publicly responded to her statements.
