Pope Leo XIV will visit Angola. The new trip is his first major international journey.
The U.S.-born leader was elected in May. He has said he wants to re-engage the Vatican with Africa early in his time as Pope.
The pontiff also hopes to visit Algeria this year. This planned stop is part of the same African trip. The full schedule and dates for the visits have not yet been announced.
