A review by state election officials has found no evidence of widespread illegal voting by migrants. This finding directly challenges a major claim by former President Donald Trump.
The review used a federal verification system to check voter rolls. Republican officials in key states led the effort. They reported they have not discovered a significant problem with noncitizens voting.
The federal tool, called the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, is used to confirm immigration status. States compared their voter databases to SAVE data.
Officials from states like Georgia, Ohio, and Virginia participated. They said the review was accurate and welcome. However, they concluded that illegal voting by noncitizens is not a widespread issue.
This state-led review contradicts Trump's repeated assertions of massive voter fraud by migrants. Election integrity remains a central theme in the current presidential campaign.
