Greenland’s leader has clearly chosen its long-standing partner, Denmark, over closer ties with the United States.
Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede stated, “We choose Denmark.” This direct comment shuts down recent speculation about Greenland shifting its geopolitical alignment towards Washington.
The statement comes just before a key meeting. On Wednesday, Greenland’s and Denmark’s foreign ministers will meet with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Greenland is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Its strategic location and rich resources have increased international interest, particularly from the U.S. and China. The Prime Minister’s words are a strong reaffirmation of its current political partnership.
