A Soldier's Final Photo: WWII Father Identified After 80 Years
The remains of U.S. Army Pfc. Wilbert Linsenbardt have been identified, 80 years after his death in World War II. Linsenbardt was fighting in Germany in 1945. He died when his daughter was just four months old. A newspaper article from that time reveals he received photos of his baby girl before his death. He was initially buried as an unknown soldier in Europe. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) used advanced DNA and dental analysis to confirm his identity. His name is now recorded on the Walls of the Missing at a U.S. military cemetery in the Netherlands. A rosette will be placed next to his name to show he has been found. Linsenbardt will be buried in his home state of Missouri later this year.
