European nations are confronting a growing number of vessels suspected of helping Russia bypass international sanctions. These ships, often called a "shadow fleet," transport Russian oil and other goods through European waters.
Many of these vessels operate by sailing without a valid national flag, a status known as "de-flagged." This practice allows them to avoid standard regulations and oversight.
In response, European authorities are now taking direct action. They are increasing inspections and detaining these non-compliant ships to enforce sanctions against Moscow. This effort aims to disrupt a key logistics route for Russia.
