Former Special Counsel Jack Smith will testify publicly before the House Judiciary Committee next week.
The hearing gives Republican lawmakers their first chance to question Smith directly. They are expected to challenge his two criminal prosecutions of former President Donald Trump.
Smith led the federal investigations into Trump’s handling of classified documents and his actions surrounding the 2020 election. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The committee, chaired by Trump ally Rep. Jim Jordan, has sharply criticized Smith’s work. The public testimony will place the prosecutor under intense political scrutiny.
