From behind bars, veteran Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye has sent a major financial donation to the presidential campaign of his rival, Bobi Wine. The surprise move was revealed during a Sunday prayer meeting at Besigye’s home in Kasangati. Opposition figures, activists, and supporters gathered there in solidarity with Besigye and others they call political prisoners. The meeting highlighted a unified front within Uganda’s fractured opposition. Besigye, a four-time presidential candidate, is a longstanding critic of President Yoweri Museveni. His support for Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, signals a strategic alliance. Bobi Wine, a pop star-turned-lawmaker, is Museveni’s main challenger in the upcoming election. He faces frequent government pressure and arrests. The prayer event and financial transfer underscore the opposition’s attempt to consolidate support against Museveni’s 35-year rule. Authorities have not commented on the reported donation.
