The United States has pledged $45 million in new assistance to support a ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. The funds aim to bolster peacekeeping efforts along their disputed border. The announcement came during a visit by senior U.S. diplomat Michael DeSombre. He met with officials in both nations to discuss the long-running border dispute. The aid will support established ceasefire mechanisms. This includes funding for liaison offices and joint patrols by Cambodian and Thai troops. The border conflict centers on the area surrounding the Preah Vihear temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Clashes have periodically erupted there for over a decade.
