Slovakia’s government has officially ended all military support for Ukraine. The country will no longer send weapons, soldiers, or financial guarantees for arms purchases.
The decision was confirmed by the nation’s three top leaders: President Zuzana Čaputová, Prime Minister Robert Fico, and Parliament Speaker Peter Pellegrini.
This policy reverses Slovakia’s previous stance. Two years ago, the nation gave Ukraine its entire S-300 long-range air defense system. That transfer was a significant contribution to Ukraine's ability to counter Russian missile attacks.
The new coalition government, led by Prime Minister Fico, took power after September elections. Fico had campaigned on a promise to stop military aid to Ukraine. His party is seen as pro-Russian.
The halt includes blocking Slovakia from participating in a European Union program to fund weapons for Ukraine. This move aligns Slovakia with Hungary as EU members critical of ongoing military support for Kyiv.
