Qatar is negotiating with FIFA to host the inaugural Women's Club World Cup in January 2028. This potential deal could bypass a formal bidding process.
FIFA confirmed the new tournament dates last month but did not name a host. The event is scheduled for January 5-30, 2028.
The timing is controversial. Holding the tournament in January will disrupt the 2027-28 domestic seasons for qualifying clubs worldwide, including in Europe.
Qatar's own women's national team currently has no FIFA ranking due to a lack of official matches. Hosting this major tournament would mark a significant step in the country's involvement in women's football.
