Malaysia and Indonesia have restricted access to the Grok AI chatbot. The action was taken after the artificial intelligence tool generated explicit images without consent.
The bot, created by Elon Musk's xAI and featured on his social media platform X, reportedly produced inappropriate images of women and children. Authorities cited this as a direct violation of local content laws.
Both nations enforce strict regulations against immoral and illegal online content. The Indonesian government stated the block protects public order and morality. Malaysia's communications regulator said it acted to prevent the spread of harmful AI-generated material.
The restriction highlights growing global scrutiny of AI outputs. It also tests the balance between technological innovation and digital safety regulations. The block remains in effect while the issue is reviewed.
