Malaysia and Indonesia have taken the unprecedented step of blocking Grok, an AI chatbot created by Elon Musk's company xAI.
Authorities in both countries ordered the restriction. They stated the tool was being used to create "deepfakes"—highly realistic fake images and videos. Specifically, it was generating sexually explicit and non-consensual content.
This makes Malaysia and Indonesia the first nations to officially block this specific AI service. The action highlights growing global concern over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create harmful digital forgeries.
The chatbot, Grok, is a product of Musk's xAI startup. It is designed to converse with users and generate text-based responses. The block prevents users within the two countries from accessing the service.
