Sudan's Government Returns to Capital After Three-Year War Exodus
Sudan's Prime Minister has announced the government's return to the national capital, Khartoum. The move ends nearly three years of operating from the coastal city of Port Sudan. The government was forced to flee Khartoum in 2023 after intense fighting with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Prime Minister Kamil Idris made the announcement on Sunday. He pledged that the government's return would bring "better services" to the city's residents. The government remains aligned with the Sudanese army. Conflict with the rival paramilitary group continues in other parts of the country.
