The Nobel Peace Prize cannot be shared, transferred, or taken back. The Nobel Institute made this rule clear after this year's winner, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, said she wanted to give her award to former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Machado won the prize in October. At that time, her win was seen as a disappointment to the White House. However, Machado quickly dedicated the honor to Trump, praising his "decisive support" for Venezuela's opposition cause.
This week, Machado said she wanted to formally share the prize with Trump. The Nobel Institute responded by stating the award's rules do not allow for such an action.
