Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man and wounded a soldier during a raid in the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank on Thursday. The operation was part of a recent intensification of Israeli military activity across the region.
The Israeli military stated its forces entered Nablus to arrest wanted militants. It reported that armed Palestinians opened fire and threw explosives. Israeli troops shot back, killing one man.
During the gunfight, a soldier was seriously wounded. He was evacuated for medical treatment.
Concurrently, Israeli forces surrounded the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. They restricted access to the holy site following calls for protests. No clashes were immediately reported there.
The West Bank has seen increased violence since the war in Gaza began. Israel conducts near-daily raids it says target militant networks. Palestinians say these operations inflame tensions.
