Iran's exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi is gaining support from anti-government protesters, an expert says.
Professor Mehran Kamrava of Georgetown University in Qatar states Pahlavi now has "brand recognition" among demonstrators. Many have recently chanted his name at protests.
Kamrava says this is partly because the current government's "gross incompetence" has improved the image of the prince's father, the late Shah. The Shah was overthrown in 1979.
The professor also notes that years of government crackdowns have left few well-known opposition figures. This lack of alternatives has increased Pahlavi's appeal.
The crown prince, who lives outside Iran, called for renewed protests this past Sunday.
