American forces, together with partner militaries, have carried out new air strikes against ISIS targets in Syria. The operation occurred on Sunday.
The US Central Command, known as CENTCOM, stated the action was necessary. Officials said they were targeting an "imminent threat" from a senior ISIS terrorist leader. The strikes are part of an ongoing campaign called Operation Hawkeye Strike.
CENTCOM confirmed the strikes were successful. The command said it hit the intended terrorist. There is no indication that any civilians were injured or killed.
The statement emphasized that the US and its allies are committed to defeating ISIS. The group is also referred to as Daesh. Operations continue to prevent the terrorist organization from regrouping.
