Independent brewers are now targeting the popular 'nitro' stout market, long dominated by Guinness. They are using the same nitrogen process to create their own dark beers.
Guinness has seen a major revival. Backed by owner Diageo's large marketing budget, the brand shed its "old man" image. It is now popular with younger drinkers, partly due to its visual appeal on social media.
The trend has created a new demand for nitrogen stouts. Smaller brewers are moving in to offer their own versions of the famous black beer.
