Former U.S. President Donald Trump says Venezuela has started to release political prisoners "in a BIG WAY." He made the statement on his social media platform.
Trump linked the releases to a recent U.S. military operation. That operation captured a top Venezuelan official, Nicolas Maduro Guerra. He is the godson of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
According to Trump, at least 18 people have been freed from detention so far. Political prisoners are individuals jailed for opposing or criticizing a government.
The former president did not provide further details. The Venezuelan government has not yet commented on these claims.
