Washington National Opera Exits Kennedy Center After 50 Years

The Washington National Opera (WNO) will leave its longtime home at the Kennedy Center. The company announced it will move its performances to a different venue starting in 2025. This ends a partnership that began when the opera was founded in 1970. It became an official part of the Kennedy Center in 2011. The opera company gave no specific reason for the move. Officials only stated they seek a venue that better serves their artistic and community goals. The Kennedy Center leadership said it respects the decision. The WNO's final season at the Kennedy Center will be 2024-2025. A new performance location has not yet been named.
