The U.S. recently imposed heavy sanctions on Venezuela's state-owned oil company. The goal is to cut off the main source of income for President Nicolás Maduro. Maduro is a leader the U.S. no longer recognizes as legitimate. In a separate event, protests continued for a second day in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Demonstrators are angry over the fatal shooting of a man by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on Wednesday. Police reported some protesters threw objects at officers, leading to several arrests.
