Russia Deploys Rare Hypersonic Missile in New Ukraine Strikes
Russian forces have again used a rare, advanced hypersonic missile against Ukraine. It is only the second known deployment of this weapon. The missile, called the Oreshnik by Ukrainian authorities, is a ballistic missile that can travel at hypersonic speeds. This means it flies faster than five times the speed of sound, making it very difficult to intercept. Moscow first used this type of missile in a strike on the city of Dnipro in November. Its second use confirms Russia's continued testing of new weapons in the war. Ukrainian air defenses reported intercepting several missiles during the latest wave of attacks. However, the capabilities of the Oreshnik present a significant challenge.
