It offers some of the world's highest ski slopes. Tourism creates jobs in hospitality, transportation, and services. Officials believe a stronger economy will bring greater stability to the region. Increased visitor numbers also support local artisans and shopkeepers. Security remains a visible concern, with military checkpoints throughout the area.
