A team of international observers has arrived in Uganda to monitor the country's upcoming general elections. The mission is a joint effort by three major African bodies: the African Union (AU), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), and the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD). An election observation mission's role is to watch the voting process and assess its fairness. Uganda's government and its Electoral Commission formally invited the group. The observers will watch the elections, which are scheduled for January 15, 2026.
