The Guardian is launching a new series that uncovers the earliest mentions of today's biggest pop culture names in its own archives.
"Origin Stories" will be a regular feature in The Guide newsletter. It will show how the newspaper first reported on figures and institutions long before they became famous.
The series promises surprising early glimpses. Examples include the band Radiohead playing in small pubs under their original name, On a Friday, and actor Timothée Chalamet's reported early days as a YouTube gamer.
The first edition also features a mystery child from a 1973 Guardian photoshoot. Readers must click through to discover the identity of this now-famous person.
