A prominent Nigerian lawyer was kidnapped and killed while on a phone call with her sister, her family says.
Nwamaka Chigbo, a former treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association's Abuja branch, was speaking to her sister when the abduction occurred. Her sister briefly left the call to assist a client.
When she returned, the line was silent. The family later confirmed Chigbo had been taken and subsequently killed.
The attack happened in Nigeria's capital, Abuja. Kidnappings for ransom are a major security issue in the country, often targeting professionals and highway travelers.
Chigbo's death has sparked renewed outcry over the nation's security crisis.
