Major protests erupted across Iran on Thursday night. Citizens took to the streets in large numbers in multiple cities.
The demonstrations followed calls for action from two key sources. One was Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran's former monarch. The other was a group of Kurdish political parties.
The government responded by imposing an internet blackout. This is a common tactic, known as a "digital curfew," used to disrupt protest organization and limit outside visibility. Despite this restriction, reports indicate a significant public turnout.
