Hong Kong Man Jailed for Seven Years in Death of Three-Month-Old Boy
A Hong Kong court has sentenced a 38-year-old man to seven years in prison for the manslaughter of a three-month-old infant. Jerry Ip Chun-yin admitted to killing the baby through acts of abuse while the child was in his care. The High Court heard that Ip thrust a cotton bud into the baby's throat and burned him with hot air from a hairdryer. The incident occurred in August 2022 after Ip promised to care for the child, who was the son of his wife's friend. Ip pleaded guilty to manslaughter by gross negligence. The court also recorded a guilty plea from Ip's wife, 27-year-old Lam Ka-hei, for her role in abusing the baby.
