Nick Kyrgios will not play singles at next week's Australian Open. The 30-year-old Australian said his body is not ready for the demands of best-of-five-set matches.
Kyrgios has recently attempted a comeback from surgery on his knee and wrist. He posted on social media that these injuries will not stop him from competing at Melbourne Park entirely.
Instead, he will focus on the doubles tournament. He plans to play alongside his friend and regular partner, Thanasi Kokkinakis.
The decision means Kyrgios has ruled himself out of contention for a singles wildcard entry. The main draw begins on January 19.
