U.S. Border Patrol agents shot two people during a vehicle stop in Portland, Maine, federal officials said Thursday. The incident occurred just one day after a separate fatal shooting by immigration agents in Minnesota.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the agents in Portland were attempting a "targeted vehicle stop" when the driver "weaponised his vehicle," posing a threat. The condition of the two people shot is currently unknown.
This marks the second shooting involving federal immigration officers this week. On Wednesday in Minneapolis, a driver was shot and killed by an officer from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during an operation. Details of both incidents remain under investigation.
