Burkina Faso’s government announced it has stopped a planned coup against President Ibrahim Traoré.
Officials accused the former transitional president, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, of organizing the attempt. The alleged plot was reportedly foiled in Bobo-Dioulasso, the country's second-largest city.
The military government stated that security and intelligence services disrupted the plan. It provided no further details about arrests or the specific timing of the alleged attempt.
President Traoré himself came to power in a coup in September 2022. He ousted Damiba, who had also seized power in a military takeover just eight months earlier.
The government has declared increased security measures nationwide following the announcement.
