Vice President JD Vance announced a new national task force to combat fraud on Tuesday. The move follows a major public benefits scandal in Minnesota.
The administration will create a special position at the U.S. Justice Department. This new leader, dubbed a "fraud czar" by some officials, will coordinate anti-fraud efforts across multiple states.
The task force aims to stop criminals who exploit different state and federal systems. It will focus on complex fraud cases that cross state lines.
Vance stated the initiative is a direct response to recent investigations in Minnesota. Authorities there uncovered a massive scheme to steal hundreds of millions in food aid funds.
"This is about protecting taxpayer money and ensuring help reaches those who truly need it," Vance said. The Justice Department will now begin the process of selecting the new national coordinator.
