French President Emmanuel Macron has sharply criticized the United States. He says America is "breaking free from international rules" and distancing itself from allies.
Macron made the comments in a major speech to France's ambassadors on Thursday. He spoke as European leaders seek a unified response to recent U.S. actions.
These actions include the U.S.-led capture of Venezuela's leader, Nicolás Maduro. They also include U.S. President Donald Trump's confirmed interest in buying Greenland from Denmark.
Macron argued that these moves show a pattern. He suggested the U.S. is acting unilaterally, outside of established international agreements and alliances.
