Iranian security forces attacked a hospital in the western city of Ilam on the night of January 3-4. Verified videos show them firing shotguns and tear gas inside the medical facility.
The forces were trying to detain injured protesters being treated there. Earlier that day, security personnel had opened fire on a protest in the nearby town of Arkavaz.
These events are part of nationwide protests that began in December 2025. The unrest is driven by a severe economic crisis in Iran.
According to the human rights group HRANA, at least 36 protesters have been killed since the demonstrations started. The protests continue to spread across the country.
