Minnesota state investigators have abruptly withdrawn from the probe into a fatal shooting by a federal immigration agent. They accuse U.S. authorities of blocking their access to crucial evidence.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) was leading the investigation into the death of Reine (also reported as Renee) Good. Good was killed in a small town last month by an agent from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The BCA stated it removed itself from the case because the FBI, which has taken over, restricted state access to evidence and witnesses. This move prevents Minnesota from completing its own independent investigation.
The FBI has not publicly commented on the state's allegations. The ICE agent involved has been placed on administrative duty.
The case highlights tensions between state and federal law enforcement. Local authorities often investigate officer-involved shootings, but federal jurisdiction can override this process.
