A teenager has admitted to murdering his parents to fund a plot to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Nikita Casap, 19, pleaded guilty this week to two counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors say he killed his mother and stepfather in their Washington state home in May 2023.
According to court documents, Casap then lived in the house with the decomposing bodies for several weeks. He eventually fled across the country with $14,000 in cash, his stepfather's firearm, and the family dog. He was arrested in Pennsylvania.
Authorities state that Casap planned to use the stolen money to travel to a Trump campaign rally. His goal, as described in the criminal complaint, was to assassinate the former president. There is no indication Trump's team was aware of the alleged plot.
Casap now faces a mandatory life sentence. His formal sentencing is scheduled for later this year.
