Chinese Expert Warns: Why Is the US Selling Us Its Top AI Chips?

A leading Chinese semiconductor expert is urging companies in China to be cautious about purchasing Nvidia's latest H200 artificial intelligence chips. Wei Shaojun, vice-president of the China Semiconductor Industry Association, said the U.S. government's shifting policy creates confusion. He questioned why Washington would allow these advanced chips to be sold to China. "The US’ inconsistent stance on advanced chips – alternating between limited easing and renewed pressure – has left users struggling to discern its true strategic intent," Wei said. His comments highlight the ongoing tensions in the global technology sector. They suggest Chinese firms should be vigilant despite the availability of the high-performance hardware. The H200 is Nvidia's newest and most powerful AI graphics processing unit (GPU). GPUs are critical for developing artificial intelligence.
