Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit China next week, aiming to reduce Canada's heavy economic reliance on the United States. This five-day trip, starting Tuesday, is the first by a Canadian leader to China since 2017.
Trade, especially in energy, is expected to dominate the talks. Carney stated the visit is part of a broader plan to build Canada's economic resilience.
"We are forging new partnerships around the world to transform our economy," Carney said on Wednesday. He did not provide further details on specific deals.
