Malaysia's Deputy PM Cleared in Major Corruption Case
Malaysian prosecutors have ended their corruption case against Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. They announced the decision on Thursday, stating there was insufficient evidence to proceed. The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) closed the case more than two years after initial charges were dropped. At that time, prosecutors said they needed to conduct more investigations. Ahmad Zahid is the leader of a key party in Malaysia’s ruling coalition. The Kuala Lumpur High Court had previously ordered him to enter a defense in September 2023. The case involved dozens of corruption charges related to a charitable foundation. The prosecution's application to drop the case means he is now formally discharged. This ends a long legal process for the country's second-highest ranking official.
