The Israeli government has moved to ban the medical aid group Doctors Without Borders from operating in Gaza and the West Bank.
Filipe Ribeiro, the organization's head of mission in Jerusalem, warned the impact would be "absolutely enormous." He spoke to the French newspaper Le Monde after Israel listed the group among 37 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) it wants to expel.
Doctors Without Borders, known by its French acronym MSF, provides critical healthcare in the occupied Palestinian territories. Its work includes surgery, maternal care, and treating chronic illnesses.
If the ban proceeds, Gaza's collapsed health system would lose a major support pillar. Most local hospitals have been destroyed or are overwhelmed since the war began.
The Israeli government accuses the listed NGOs of having links to terrorism. It has not provided public evidence for the claim against MSF. The aid group strongly denies supporting any armed faction.
A final decision on the ban is still pending.
