Vietnam to Ban Gas Vehicles from Ho Chi Minh City Center

Ho Chi Minh City plans to ban all motorcycles and cars using gasoline from its downtown core. The goal is to reduce severe air pollution and traffic jams. The ban will apply to an area of roughly 10 square kilometers. This zone includes the city's historic and business center. Only electric vehicles and public transport will be allowed. Officials say the policy will start in 2030. A full city-wide ban on gasoline vehicles is planned for 2050. This move is part of a national strategy. Vietnam wants all cars and motorcycles on its roads to be electric by 2050. The government is promoting electric vehicle (EV) production and use. The city of over 9 million people has more than 7.5 million registered motorcycles. Most currently run on gasoline. The proposed ban is a major step toward cleaner transportation.
