President Trump has proposed a massive increase in U.S. defense spending for 2027. The plan would raise the military budget to $1.5 trillion.
This represents a more than 50% jump from current spending levels. The proposal comes as the President cites globally "troubled and dangerous times" as the reason for the surge.
If approved by Congress, this budget would mark one of the largest peacetime increases in military funding. The final amount will be subject to negotiation with lawmakers.
