Forces from the Syrian Democratic Front (SDF) attacked positions held by Syrian government internal security troops on Wednesday. The assault occurred in the town of al-Buleil in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.
A Syrian state security source said the SDF used heavy machine guns in the attack. The targeted forces are part of Syria's official Internal Security Forces.
This incident highlights ongoing tensions in eastern Syria. The region is divided between areas controlled by the U.S.-backed SDF and those held by the Syrian government.
Earlier reports indicate rising clashes between the two sides in Deir Ezzor this week.
