Israeli forces advanced into the Syrian province of Quneitra on Wednesday. They raised their national flag on a hill known as Tel al-Ahmar al-Sharqi, according to Syrian state media.
Local residents described the military incursion as another violation of a key agreement. The action breaks the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, which created a buffer zone between Israeli and Syrian forces.
A reporter for Syria's official news agency, SANA, stated this is part of ongoing Israeli operations in the region. The area has seen repeated tensions and previous violations of the decades-old truce.
The move occurs in the southern countryside of Quneitra, a province bordering the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. No immediate military clashes were reported following the flag-raising.
